Greedfall 2 Announced for Steam Early Access This Summer

Developers confirm Steam early access plans for colonial fantasy prequel this summer.

Greedfall 2, the prequel to Spiders’ 2019 colonial fantasy RPG, finally has a release window. The developer revealed during the Nacon Connect livestream that Greedfall 2 will launch in Steam Early Access later this summer.

A new cinematic trailer accompanied the early access announcement, teasing Greedfall 2’s intense 17th century action and magical landscapes. Set three years before the original game, Greedfall 2 stars a new custom protagonist who must fight for their freedom after being taken from their island home to the oppressive shores of Gacane.

While story details remain scarce, the trailer depicts the hero engaging in tactical, magic-infused melee battles against human and supernatural foes alike.

Prequel Storyline Detailed for Greedfall 2

It suggests players can recruit up to three companions, allowing them to control a party of four simultaneously in combat. This marks an expansion from the original Greedfall’s party limit of two.

With its rich color palette and sweeping vistas, Greedfall 2 looks to deliver visuals on par with its predecessor’s striking Baroque-inspired world. And its premise of rebellion should provide plenty of narrative depth to anchor the combat and exploration.

Cinematic Trailer Hints at Tactical Combat Improvements

GreedFall 2: The Dying World

While only coming to early access initially, Greedfall 2 represents a major step forward for the burgeoning franchise. The first game garnered a cult following, praised for its setting and freedom of choice despite some repetitive quest design. By fixing those issues, the prequel could attract more mainstream success.

The developers promise to reveal more details in a livestream on February 23rd. Until then, fans can analyze the brief but enticing cinematic trailer for clues about what’s to come. With deep tactical combat and stunning scenery built on the original’s foundation, Greedfall 2 could cast an even stronger spell when it hits early access this summer.
