After a rocky launch plagued by connectivity issues, Arrowhead Game Studios is celebrating a milestone for its hit sci-fi shooter Helldivers 2 – a full weekend without any major server problems.

The sequel’s immense popularity resulted in frequent downtime and log-in queues, marring the experience for many players. But after continually expanding capacity, the servers smoothly accommodated peak demand over the February 24-26 weekend, hitting a new record of over 450,000 concurrent users on Steam.

In a tweet, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt expressed pride in his team for achieving server stability. With technical hurdles clearing, the developers now plan to resume their original post-launch roadmap and deliver new content toHelldivers 2.

Among the most anticipated additions are playable mech suits, which featured prominently in the first Helldivers and were teased prior to Helldivers 2’s release. The hulking exoskeletons equipped with heavy weapons promise to bring a new dimension to the co-op shooter’s frenetic battles.

With Servers Fixed, Helldivers 2 Refocuses on New Features

Stealth options also appear to be on the horizon, based on a recent tweet from Pilestedt hinting at upcoming “subsonic ammo and suppressors.” Players have long requested more stealth-focused gear to enable quieter, more tactical approaches.

While Pilestedt did not share specifics, he promised “many exciting things upcoming” now that server issues no longer dominate the team’s focus. A roadmap likely arriving soon should outline exact plans for new content, gameplay features, and quality-of-life improvements.

After its rocky start, Helldivers 2’s developers can finally shift full attention to rewarding fans with the frequent updates and additions expected of a live service multiplayer title. With a solid technical foundation in place, the future looks bright for continued support and expanded gameplay possibilities.
