Permadeath Comes for Assassin’s Creed Mirage Players in Latest Update

New update provides the definitive test of skill for AC veterans.

Assassin's Creed Mirage

After months of anticipation, the hardcore permadeath mode for Assassin’s Creed Mirage has finally arrived in the game’s 1.0.7 title update today. Dubbed the “Full Synchronization Challenge,” this new mode acts as the definitive test of skill for seasoned AC players, with failure resulting in permanent deletion of the save file.

Once enabled at the start of a new game, the permadeath rules cannot be disabled or turned off. If protagonist Basim dies for any reason or commits illegal in-game actions like killing civilians, the Animus simulation ends and players are greeted with a game over screen displaying stats from their run. There are no second chances or continues – the save file is erased completely. This creates incredibly high stakes unseen in previous AC games.

Adding to the tension, Full Synchronization Challenge can be attempted on easy, normal or hard difficulties, with the highest difficulty yielding unique rewards like special outfits and dyes for completing a full permadeath run. This provides incentive for expert players to fully master Mirage’s stealth systems and level designs without a single misstep.

The inclusion of permadeath speaks to Mirage’s “back to basics” approach of emphasizing methodical stealth gameplay versus the sprawling RPG mechanics of recent series entries. Players must truly become one with the assassin’s tools and environment to survive. While certainly not for the faint of heart, this optional mode should thrill streamers and score chasers looking for the ultimate AC challenge.

Alongside permadeath, the 1.0.7 update adds new quality-of-life features like transmog outfits, further cementing Mirage as a love letter to classic AC fans. However, a mysterious new Easter egg hints that secrets still remain undiscovered in the streets of Baghdad. Ubisoft continues to support Mirage with substantial, fan-requested updates, setting the stage for what’s likely to be an exciting year ahead for the iconic stealth franchise.
