Director Jeff Fowler Celebrates Filming Milestone, Giving Fans a Glimpse of the Highly-Anticipated Sequel

The road to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has been paved as director Jeff Fowler has announced that production on the upcoming third installment in the hit film franchise has officially wrapped. Taking to social media, Fowler commemorated the major milestone by sharing a behind-the-scenes photo revealing the movie’s clapperboard, which contained an illustrated tease hinting at the arrival of the fan-favorite antihero, Shadow the Hedgehog.

Donning a cheeky “Keep Calm And Jim Carrey On” t-shirt, the filmmaker can be seen on the blue-screened set while holding up the massive clapperboard adorned with various characters from the Sonic universe. Prominently featured is a thought bubble emerging from the unmistakable form of Shadow stating “That’s a wrap,” serving as both an announcement of the filming’s conclusion and a nod to the dark hedgehog’s long-awaited live-action debut.

Previously teased in a post-credits scene from 2022’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the reveal of “Project Shadow” has fans buzzing with excitement over the iconic character’s potential role as the central antagonist. While Shadow’s official appearance and voice actor remain under wraps, the tease further stokes anticipation for how elements from iconic Sonic storylines like Sonic Adventure 2 may be adapted.

In addition to Ben Schwartz returning as the voice of the Blue Blur himself, the ensemble for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will see Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Idris Elba, and more reprising their roles. They’ll be joined by franchise newcomers including Krysten Ritter, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, and Jorma Taccone in yet-to-be-disclosed parts.
