In a recent interview with Access Online, Finn Wolfhard, who portrays Mike Wheeler, revealed that while the actors have read up to the second-to-last episode, they are still awaiting the script for the series finale.
“They’re waiting to give us the last episode,” Wolfhard disclosed. “We’ve read up to the second-to-last episode, so we’re all on the edge of our seats to find out what the ending is.”
Despite the shroud of secrecy surrounding the show’s conclusion, Wolfhard has his own vision for how he hopes the Stranger Things story will wrap up. “Truly, I would love a Lord of the Rings style happy ending,” the actor expressed, referencing the uplifting and triumphant finale of the beloved fantasy trilogy.
Wolfhard’s co-star Millie Bobby Brown, who plays the powerful Eleven, echoed similar sentiments about being kept in the dark regarding the show’s denouement. “We haven’t read any [finale] scripts yet,” Brown revealed. “I know what happens to my character, but I don’t know what happens to others. So I think, yeah, they’re holding it back until we’re all together, and we can all cry and be sad together.”
As the cast eagerly awaits the final chapter, they are also grappling with the bittersweet emotions of bidding farewell to a project that has defined a significant portion of their lives and careers. Brown opened up about the conflicting feelings surrounding the end of Stranger Things, describing it as both “exciting” and “really scary” to part ways with the comforting familiarity of the show.
