The Fallout franchise from Bethesda Softworks has experienced a remarkable resurgence on Valve’s Steam platform, with concurrent player counts more than doubling across the series in the wake of the debut of Amazon Prime’s new Fallout TV show.

Despite being nearly a decade old, Fallout 4 is currently sitting among the top 20 most-played games on Steam, showcasing the enduring popularity of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG series. Prior to the TV show’s release, Fallout 4 had been averaging around 20,000 to 25,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, that number has now skyrocketed to over 75,000 players at its peak.

The trend extends beyond just Fallout 4, with Fallout 76 and Fallout New Vegas also seeing significant spikes in their player bases. Fallout 76, Bethesda’s online-focused entry in the series, has hit a new all-time concurrent player record of 35,620 on Steam. Meanwhile, the beloved Fallout New Vegas has quadrupled its player count since the TV show’s debut.

Alongside the surge in player activity, the Fallout franchise as a whole has also seen a major boost in sales on Steam. Fallout 4 and its Game of the Year edition are currently among the best-selling titles on the platform, while the Fallout Franchise Bundle, which includes the entire PC catalog, is sitting in the 10th spot.

The combination of deep discounts on the Fallout games and the renewed interest sparked by the new Amazon Prime TV series appears to be the driving force behind this resurgence. Bethesda has also made some key updates to improve the Fallout experience, including the addition of Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 to the Nvidia GeForce NOW cloud gaming service this week.

Looking ahead, the Fallout franchise is poised for even greater success with the upcoming release of a next-gen update for Fallout 4 on April 25th. This update will bring 4K resolution, performance boosts, and wider screen support to the game, further enhancing the experience for both new and returning players. Additionally, Fallout 4 will finally become available on the Epic Games Store, expanding its accessibility.

The Fallout franchise’s ability to captivate both longtime fans and newcomers alike is a testament to the enduring appeal of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic world. As the TV series continues to explore the rich lore of this beloved series, it seems clear that the Fallout franchise is set to reach new heights on Steam and beyond.
