Turbo-Charged ‘Distance’ Races Onto PlayStation After 10-Year Pit Stop

Refract Studios' long-anticipated arcade racer finally gets green light for PlayStation release after a decade of development.

After nearly a decade of anticipation, the wildly intense arcade racing game Distance is finally approaching its release on PlayStation consoles. Originally announced for PS4 back in 2013, the neon-drenched speed fest has spent years in development before launching on PC, but PlayStation owners have been made to wait patiently on the starting line.

That prolonged pit stop now appears to be ending soon, as a full Trophy list for the game has surfaced online, signaling Distance is speeding towards the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in the near future.

Developed by Refract Studios, Distance casts players as a renegade car trapped in a vivid, nightmarish universe, forced to race at blistering speeds through treacherous environments filled with twisting turns and deadly obstacles. The game blends blistering driving with acrobatic stunts, encouraging players to not just race but flip, jump, and glide through mind-bending cityscape tracks.

While the core racing experience was built for breakneck, glossy action, Distance also features a full Story Mode with an underlying narrative pulling players through the chaos. Arcade modes, multiplayer, and an extensive gameplay customization suite round out the package.

The newly revealed Trophy details show Distance will launch as a single product on both PS5 and PS4. The PS5 version is promised to take advantage of the new console’s hardware capabilities with implementation of haptic feedback and other next-gen enhancements.

For long-suffering PlayStation fans who have been awaiting this game’s arrival for almost an entire console generation, Distance’s journey to their platforms has been an exercise in patience. But that finish line is now in sight, with motorheads able to finally get that long-overdue remastered racing fix on modern PlayStation hardware.
