Bethesda Game Studios has just released a massive update for their highly anticipated space-faring RPG, Starfield, and players are absolutely loving it. The update, currently available in Steam Beta and scheduled for an official release on May 15th, introduces a slew of highly requested features and improvements that have been eagerly awaited by the game’s dedicated fanbase.

One of the biggest highlights of the update is the complete overhaul of Starfield’s city maps. In the reveal video, Art Director Istvan Pely discussed the new aesthetic, explaining, “We took what’s there, blew it all up, and now we have a whole new aesthetic to surface maps where you can see the terrain, all the details in the terrain, trees, rocks.” Pely also emphasized that the maps are now significantly easier to navigate, with markers clearly indicating the locations of shops and other points of interest within each city.

Lead Producer Joe Mueller highlighted another exciting addition: brand-new gameplay options that allow players to tailor the experience to their preferred playstyle. Players can now adjust settings such as vendor credit capacity, carry weight, and difficulty levels for various gameplay elements like space combat and gunfights. “Depending on how you play, you can actually tune space combat to be more difficult, or gun combat less difficult,” Mueller explained. “It’s really up to you. And depending on how you balance them, it’ll change how you get XP.”

The update also introduces the highly anticipated ability to decorate the interiors of players’ ships, a feature that was previously limited to outposts. Now, players can precisely place and arrange their belongings within their ships, adding a personal touch to their space-faring vessels.

Since the update’s availability in Steam Beta, players have taken to various online platforms to express their excitement and praise for the new features. On Reddit, a short clip shared by user Cratoic, showcasing the new city maps, garnered over 3,000 upvotes, with users lauding the maps as “pretty fantastic to use” and appreciating the ability to truly visualize the layout of cities like New Atlantis.

In a separate post, Reddit user Isunova summed up the sentiment, declaring, “Bethesda cooked with this update.” They went on to explain, “I’m one of those people that thought the premium edition at launch, played Starfield for about 40 hours, and then never touched it again. That was back in September. With this update, I’m ready to start a new game and dive back in.”

While the inclusion of these features should arguably have been part of the game’s launch, it’s clear that Bethesda has listened to player feedback and delivered improvements that have reignited the excitement around Starfield. As players explore the revamped city maps, tweak their gameplay settings, and personalize their ships, the anticipation for future updates and expansions, such as the reported Shattered Space DLC rumored for a September release, continues to build.

Bethesda’s commitment to enhancing the Starfield experience through substantial updates like this one is a testament to the developers’ dedication to delivering a truly exceptional space-faring adventure. As the game continues to evolve and improve, players can look forward to even more immersive and tailored experiences in the vast expanse of Starfield’s universe.
