Mobile infantry, prepare to join the fight against the insectoid “bug menace” on console. Developers Stratton Games have announced that their co-op shooter Starship Troopers: Extermination will officially launch its full version on Xbox Series X/S on October 11, 2024 after an extended early access period.
Based on the cult classic 1997 sci-fi film, Extermination allows up to 16 players to team up online and battle waves of swarming alien bugs across various hostile extraterrestrial environments. The game channels the over-the-top action and militaristic bravado of the original Starship Troopers movie while bringing the xenomorph extermination experience to frenetic first-person shooter gameplay.
Helping capture that authentic Starship Troopers flavor is the return of Casper Van Dien, who is reprising his role as Johnny Rico, the cocky yet heroic infantry soldier tasked with leading humanity’s resistance against the arachnid invasion. Van Dien has provided voice work and performance capture for the game.

While Extermination has been available in early access since last year, the impending 1.0 launch promises to be the biggest update yet. A new content drop dubbed ‘Carnage on Planet X-11’ is slated for June, introducing fresh enemy types with new bug armor variations to fight against. It will also add an all-new map environment blending indoor and outdoor locations for players to defend.
Beyond these additions, the full launch release is set to include numerous gameplay refinements and quality of life improvements made throughout Extermination’s early access period based on community feedback. The developer has also teased surprises and further details to be revealed closer to the October 11th launch date.
For fans of bombastic, chunky co-op shooters, Starship Troopers: Extermination could scratch that itch when it officially deploys on Xbox Series X/S in a few months.
