There’s buzz that Robert Downey Jr. could rejoin the Marvel movies – but not as Iron Man! Some think he may play Doctor Doom instead.
Fans have speculated RDJ might come back without messing up Iron Man’s big ending in “Avengers: Endgame.” Doctor Doom is a genius villain, so having RDJ play him could work well. Both characters are super smart, but Doom isn’t a hero like Iron Man.
Kevin Feige from Marvel said any returning role has to further the story. Doctor Doom is set to be a big bad guy going forward. He’ll likely debut in the new “Fantastic Four” then show up in future crossovers against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
People think RDJ as Doom could reboot audience interest since some were sad to see Iron Man go. The next phase seems to focus on the multiverse, and Doom figures to be a force across realities. Having a star actor take that role may amp fans up again.
Of course, Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything. We’ll have to wait and see if this chatter leads anywhere. It would be cool to see RDJ back in the MCU, even if it’s on the villainous side for a change of pace. Doctor Doom has potential as a Tony Stark opposite, so the idea of these two geniuses clashing has me curious! Fans will continue debating Robert Downey Jr.’s future in the ever-growing Marvel movie world.
