At Comic-Con 2022, the cast and creative team behind the animated revival of beloved sitcom Everybody Hates Chris gave fans their first glimpse of the new series. Titled Everybody Still Hates Chris, the adult animated comedy continues comedian Chris Rock’s autobiographical story of growing up in 1980s Brooklyn.
The original 2005-2009 series drew inspiration from Rock’s childhood and was a ratings hit for UPN and The CW. Rock created and narrated the single-camera sitcom, which starred Tyler James Williams as a young Chris and Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold as his parents Julius and Rochelle.
At Comic-Con, Crews and Arnold were on hand to reprise their roles, now voicing the Rock parents in animated form. Joining as the voice of young Chris is Tim Johnson Jr., with Ozioma Akagha voicing best friend Tonya, Terrence Little Gardenhigh as friend Drew, and Gunnar Sizemore as Greg.
“I’m very excited to introduce the world to another funny side of my childhood,” Rock said in a statement. Showrunner Sanjay Shah added the revival aims to honor the original fans loved while adapting to animation’s possibilities.
Opting for an adult animated format will allow the series to explore more mature themes and push comedic boundaries. Meanwhile, retaining elements like the returning cast and Rock’s narration promises to satisfy longtime fans of the biographical comedy.
While an exact premiere date is still under wraps, industry insiders speculate Everybody Still Hates Chris could debut as early as late 2024 on Comedy Central and Paramount+.
