The Venice Film Festival is coming up in August, and this year is looking awesome! They just announced all the movies that will be shown, and it includes some huge directors and big name stars.
The festival runs from August 28th through September 7th. It will be the 81st year they’ve done it. They’ll be showing tons of movies from all over the world in different categories.
Some of the big movies competing for awards include Pedro Almodóvar’s new one called “The Room Next Door.” Luca Guadagnino, who did “Call Me By Your Name,” has a movie called “Queer” that sounds intriguing. Pablo Larraín, who directed “Spencer” about Princess Diana, has a film called “Maria.” Also, Todd Phillips, the guy who made “Joker,” is back with a new “Joker” movie called “Joker: Folie à Deux.”
Then there are some non-competition movies that have awesome directors and famous actors. Tim Burton is showing his movie “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” where I bet Johnny Depp is in it being super weird. Brad Pitt and George Clooney team up again in Jon Watts’ new movie “Wolfs.” Harmony Korine, who made the very strange “Spring Breakers,” has a flick called “Baby Invasion” that will probably blow your mind.
A bunch of TV shows from top-notch directors will also premiere. Alfonso Cuarón, who did “Gravity” and “Roma,” has a new show starring Nicole Kidman called “Disclaimer.” Joe Wright, the guy behind “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement,” has a series called “M. The Son of the Century.”
Isabelle Huppert will be the head judge picking the winners. She’s a great actress herself. The “Orizzonti” section highlights new and emerging filmmakers. Those movies also sound intriguing.
With so many stellar films in the lineup from so many famous creatives, it’s clear the Venice Film Festival always brings its A-game. It kicks off the fall awards season buzz. Mark your calendars for late August/early September to see what fantastic films might shine!
