Amazon has announced plans to offer Apple’s popular video streaming service Apple TV+ as an add-on subscription through its Prime Video platform. Starting later this month, Prime Video subscribers in the United States will be able access Apple’s growing library of original shows and movies for an extra monthly fee of $9.99.
Mike Hopkins, the head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, revealed the partnership at a recent industry event. He emphasized the existing relationship between Amazon and Apple. “We’ve successfully worked with Apple before in different areas,” Hopkins stated.
Through the deal, Prime Video users will gain access to all of Apple TV+’s scripted programming. This includes widely watched series as well as films. Subscribers will also get to stream Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer games. This gives viewers more choices for entertainment on the Amazon platform.
For Amazon, the partnership lets it enhance its streaming offerings without independently producing new content. Apple TV+ joins over 100 other premium add-on subscriptions currently available to Prime customers in the U.S. Viewers can now manage all of their streaming memberships in one app.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, said in a statement that the company wants “as many people as possible to experience Apple TV+ shows and movies.” He expressed excitement that the integration with Prime Video “provides customers with an amazing variety of viewing options.”
Consumers will reportedly have a seamless experience. Prime members can subscribe to Apple TV+ directly through the Prime Video app without needing additional apps or cable services. Users also have flexibility, as the subscription can be canceled at any time.
As different streaming services compete for audiences, partnerships like this have become more common. Allowing access to additional content helps both Amazon and Apple attract and retain subscribers while offering value. Making Apple TV+ available via Prime Video could potentially bring the service’s shows and films to a wider audience. It also strengthens Amazon’s position as a one-stop shop for entertainment.
