The popular animated series Miraculous Ladybug is preparing for a significant refresh as it approaches its 10th anniversary. Andy Yeatman, who became CEO of Miraculous Corp last June, has big plans to broaden the franchise’s scope.
Yeatman revealed that two new heroes, Lady Dragon and Stellar Force, will join main characters Ladybug and Cat Noir. This expands the Miraculous world beyond Paris. “We think there’s more stories to tell in new areas,” Yeatman said. The creative team has developed these characters internally for years.
New settings like Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro will feature in upcoming episodes and films. A fourth TV movie set in Tokyo is slated for late next year. A second feature film will take place partly in Paris, Yeatman said.
While locations and faces may change, Yeatman stressed the core elements that made Miraculous a phenomenon will stay the same. “The heroes are all relatable teenagers who discover they have superpowers which they use to help friends and the world,” he explained.
Seasons six and seven, currently in production, will debut an updated visual design. The characters will receive a style refresh as the series moves to Unreal Engine, a high-end 3D software. “We’re giving the character designs a makeover,” Yeatman stated.
Created in 2015, Miraculous has produced five seasons, three TV movies, and a feature film seen by many worldwide. Miraculous Corp oversees over $1.5 billion in retail sales through 400 licensees. industry veteran Roz Nowicki was appointed global head of consumer products.
Yeatman attributes enduring popularity to character-driven stories resonating across demographics. “It’s popular on Disney, Netflix, YouTube, and Roblox with different ages,” he noted. Miraculous has kept strong appeal not just with its target 5-11 group but also teens and young adults.
As Miraculous enters a new era, fans can expect refreshed adventures delivery on qualities making it a global leader in animation.
