Comedian and longtime New York Knicks fan Tracy Morgan had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair Monday night after becoming ill while sitting courtside. The incident, which occurred during the third quarter of the Knicks’ game against the Miami Heat, briefly delayed play as arena staff worked to clean up the affected area.
Witnesses reported that Morgan appeared to vomit onto the court before attempting to stop a nosebleed with a towel. Video footage from the scene showed the 56-year-old being escorted from his seat, struggling to stand as medical personnel assisted him. A source on social media claimed Morgan was “bleeding from the nose” and “could barely stand up.”
A Madison Square Garden spokesperson released a statement following the event: “We hope Tracy feels better soon and look forward to seeing him back courtside.” A Knicks player also expressed concern, stating, “We hope everything is good with Tracy Morgan, avid lifetime Knicks fan, so prayers go out to him and his health and safety.”
Morgan’s representatives have not commented on the incident, and the cause of his illness remains unclear. The comedian has a history of medical challenges, including a kidney transplant in 2010 due to complications from diabetes. In 2014, he survived a serious car accident when his limousine was struck by a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike. The crash killed fellow comedian James McNair and left Morgan with severe injuries, requiring extensive rehabilitation to regain mobility and speech.
More recently, Morgan has spoken about using the Type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic as part of a weight-loss effort. However, it is unknown whether his medical history or any medications played a role in Monday’s incident.
Morgan, a Bronx native, has been a fixture at Knicks games for years, frequently sitting courtside and engaging with players and fans. Despite the alarming nature of the event, he is expected to continue his television work, including his role in an upcoming NBC comedy pilot alongside Daniel Radcliffe. The series will feature Morgan as a disgraced former football player attempting to rebuild his reputation.
