Vin Diesel has suggested that he may return as Groot in a new Marvel project separate from the Guardians of the Galaxy series. The actor shared the update in an Instagram post outlining his schedule for 2025.
“Disney wants their Planet X! Which some say is Marvel’s most anticipated movie, haha. The film where Groot returns to his home planet,” Diesel wrote.
His statement has led to speculation about a standalone film focused on Groot’s origins and home world. Planet X, known as the home of the Flora Colossus species, has appeared in Marvel comics but has yet to be explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Diesel has voiced Groot since Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), continuing the role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). He returned for Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). He also voiced the character in the Disney+ series I Am Groot and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
The Instagram post included images from Diesel’s past Fast & Furious projects, along with photos of his late co-star Paul Walker.
Diesel also listed other upcoming films, including Fast X: Part 2, a Rock’em Sock’em adaptation based on the Mattel toy, and new installments of xXx, Riddick, and The Last Witch Hunter.
He reiterated his push to have Fast X: Part 2 filmed in Los Angeles, citing recent wildfires as a reason to support the local economy. “Los Angeles needs it now more than ever… Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home,” he wrote.
Marvel Studios and Disney have not confirmed any details about a Groot-centered film.
