Electronic Arts may be planning some big-budget single-player games, but the positions on which the company earns the most money speak for themselves. Only look at this publisher’s latest financial results. It has a few hundred million active users on its services, out of which FIFA is obviously doing the best.
For the coming year, the EA is preparing typically singleplayer items, like a new Need for Speed or a remake of Dead Space…
But let’s agree that revenues from these games will be just a pittance in a veritable sea of bills. The company scored a 22 percent increase in revenue from the end of July 2021 to the end of June 2022, in spite of the relatively small number of launches since then.
Suffice it to say that most of the overall revenue comes from the publisher’s games-in-development – as much as 73 percent. We are talking not only about FIFA, but also about Apex Legends and mobile games.
And those EA has quite a few, actually representing many different well-known brands. Lord of the Rings, FIFA Mobile, NBA Live Mobile, Sims Mobile, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes…. and many more.
But returning to FIFA, Ultimate Team is holding up well, in spite of a marked decline in the form of the game itself in recent years.
Enough to say that EA recorded as much as 40 percent more activity in this mode than in the same period last year. Apex Legends Mobile, which made its debut a few months ago, is also performing brilliantly.
Therefore, one can say that for EA, announced big games such as the new Dragon Age, Mass Effect 5, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor or the Dead Space remake are only an “image investment.”
Financially, perhaps less profitable, but if any of these games come to fruition, there might also be a chance for prestigious awards – such as It Takes Two for best game of 2021.
