Gamescom 2022: New the Lords of the Fallen Officially Announced

CI Games dropped the "2" in the game's title, but the overall premise of the game remained unchanged.

Lords of the fallen

The CI Games company announced a sequel to Lords of the Fallen some time ago. The project, however, has not been promoted in any way for quite some time, the developers behind it, Hexworks, are finally ready to show the world the results of their work so far.

First, it must be mentioned that the new venture will no longer be called Lords of the Fallen 2. the publisher has decided to drop the “two” from the title, and, consequently, we’ll get simply Lords of the Fallen.

As far as its premise is concerned, they remain basically unchanged. So we have an RPG, in which the emphasis is on exploration and combat.

The gameplay itself was not shown by CI Games during Gamescom Opening Night Live, but below you can take a look at the new cinematic trailer.

We also learn from the game’s page on Steam that Lords of the Fallen will offer a vast world (five times larger than the one from the first game), customization of characters, smooth combat and much more.

The story of The Lords of the Fallen takes place a thousand years after the events of the first installment and will present a completely new story, which will be set in a gigantic world – developers will provide interconnected and intersecting locations.

The events will take place on an area five times larger than the first game. Developers promise plenty of “intriguing NPCs” or tasks related to them. Nor will the title lack a rich narrative.

Production will offer solo or cooperative (two-player) gameplay, while fans of challenging items will be given the option to seamlessly transition between solo and team gameplay.

Hexworks was established in 2020 and a team of 75 people is responsible for The Lords of the Fallen, which in addition is supported by external developers. Saul Gascon (Dead by Daylight, PayDay 2) is the executive producer of the game, while Caesar Virtosu (Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed: Origins) is its creative director.

Caesar Virtosu announced the production this way:

“The Lords of the Fallen is a spiritual successor that fans of the original always wanted. This game is significantly larger, with an enormous dual world, complete with connections between locations and a division between the realm of the living and the dead. You can explore it alone or with friends. The atmosphere of the game is much darker and more challenging – and the world has a stronger identity, richer narrative and a more immersive story. Soulslike combat is faster and more dynamic, and RPG systems are much deeper than in the original.”

Based on information so far, the Lords of the Fallen should debut in 2023, and it will be available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
