Sony To Hold Big Game Show Later This Month

Is it all about God of War: Ragnarok release?

For some time now, there has been talk that Sony is gearing up for a major PS4 and PS5 dedicated game show. Most recent rumors suggest that the PlayStation Showcase is scheduled to take place in August 2022. Should this be the case, the main topic is expected to be the release of God of War: Ragnarok.

The month of June was filled with industry previews of upcoming titles. At that time, the secret about their plans was revealed by all major companies – except Sony.

Despite the fact that it has long been rumored that this Japanese company is planning a major presentation of PS4 and PS5 dedicated games, so far the event has not been officially announced or even hinted at.

Sony is getting ready for August?

That makes room for all sorts of rumors, gossip and conjecture. For the most recent source of this kind of information, see Nick Baker – co-founder of XboxEra.com and co-host of the XboxEra podcast on YouTube, who is known on Twitter under the pseudonym Shpeshal_Nick.

He recently wrote in a tweet that he had recently reached out and learned that Sony was looking to hold such a showcase in August 2022.

So because *I’ve* been getting asked, I asked if Sony had a show planned for September and got told that at the moment the plan is for a show in August. But just to make sure those that want to be pissed at me will be, “not sure if it will be moved” was also part of the reply!

— Balatro Nick  (@Shpeshal_Nick) August 1, 2022

As there is talk of a large presentation, we can guess that it is about the PlayStation Showcase, rather than the “usual” State of Play. However, the point is that in previous years these events were usually held in September, not August.

This year, of course, Sony may wish to make an exception to the rule – not least because The Last of Us: Part I is coming out for PS5 on September 2.

Risk of rescheduling to September

However, it is possible that the show will be held traditionally in September nonetheless. After all, Nick Baker has admitted that his sources are not 100 percent sure that the event is not going to be postponed precisely to the first month of autumn.

It is worth remembering at the same time that Shpeshal Nick’s reports are sometimes very different – one time they come true, the other time they don’t. That is why it is better not to sharpen your teeth in vain and to wait for an official announcement from Sony.

PlayStation Showcase 2022 – What can we expect?

So what should we expect from this alleged PlayStation Showcase? Well, if not a remake of The Last of Us, then definitely Sony’s upcoming blockbuster, which – in all likelihood – will prove to be God of War: Ragnarok, which is scheduled for release on PS4 and PS5 on November 9.

Other than that? Who knows? Maybe a longer trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2? What do you think we will see in the Sony show? Let us know in the comments below.
