In the recently announced Armored Core 6, which is a production of FromSoftware studio, we will not only find a mass of minor clashes with mechs in the lead role, but also spectacular boss fights, inspired by the Japanese developer’s previous productions. The title’s director, though, has assured that it will not be just another soulslike game.
We found out about the return of the Armored Core series from a trailer released at this year’s The Game Awards. Studio FromSoftware is revisiting the old series dedicated to robots, while enhancing it with elements characteristic of the Dark Souls series.
“Boss fights will be the highlight of the game. The clashes will be based on FromSoftware’s characteristic production principles: the ability to sense the opponent’s attacks and react appropriately to them. The combat model will be aggressive, and the opponents’ blows will be brutal. We are creating the game in such a way that the player can enjoy the dynamics and intensity that only mech clashes can guarantee.” recounted the game’s director, Masaru Yamamura, in an interview with IGN.
Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, though, won’t be another soulslike title. Instead, this title will remain faithful to the fundamental tenets of the series, i. e. a linear story divided into missions, taking place in a closed world.
“We are not making any conscious effort to steer the game towards a Soulsborne-type production,” – assured Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the Dark Souls series. So, series fans can rest assured – we won’t encounter Estus bottle-powered mechs in the game.
There will be an extensive “tuning” option instead. We’ll be able to strengthen our mech with a “wide range of various parts”, which will allow us to adjust the appropriate strategy for a particular battle. The title will thus place emphasis not only on arcade aspects, but also tactical skills.
FromSoftware studio’s new production is scheduled for release next year on PC and PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Curiously, the series’ last installment – Armored Core 5 – debuted in 2012. The developers, however, have decided to return to the series from the past, as we found out earlier this year.
