The death theme is very close to the God of War series. No wonder, therefore, fans of the series for a long time floated speculations about the fate of the most important characters of God of War Ragnarok.
Now one of the game’s developers decided to reveal which characters were never planned to be put to death. Before moving on to the next section, we should mention that there are danger of SPOILERS. So, if you haven’t played both games, you should not keep on reading this article.
The end of the 2018 installment raised many questions among players. For the record, during one of the last scenes of the game we saw a wall painting, showing a seemingly dead Kratos.
Thus, the scenario most often described by players predicted that the protagonist wouldn’t live to see the end of the sequel. However, as it turns out, the creators never planned for such a development.
“We didn’t consider Kratos’ death for a number of reasons,” – Eric Williams, the game’s director, said in an interview with The Washington Post website. “Mainly because it wouldn’t have been the story we wanted to convey. We wanted to show the bond between a child and a parent. About how together they become strong enough to understand that they have made each other better. And even if they were separated, they would still remain strong.”
“Death, on the other hand, is something different. It creates a completely different set of emotions, a lot of grief and bitterness. Watching your child go off to college, on the other hand, is a natural progression of things that doesn’t carry such a negative burden,” – He added.
There are likely quite a few people for whom such a resolution of the story has proved unsatisfactory. Games, as well as movies and TV series have managed to get viewers used to mercilessly killing off likable characters.
