Apex Legends Breaks Popularity Record on Steam

However, Team Deathmatch disappointed.

Recently, Apex Legends reached a new milestone on Steam, with a whopping 610,000 players logged in simultaneously. This surpassed the game’s previous record of 511.7 thousand players, which is a significant increase of nearly 100,000 users.

It’s an impressive achievement for a title that was released just over four years ago in February 2019, even though it still has some catching up to do with the 11-year-old CS:GO.

The surge in popularity can be attributed to the start of the 16th season of the competition, despite mixed reactions to the game’s newest feature, team deathmatch mode.

Although this mode has appeared in the game before, it has now been added as a permanent feature, replacing the previous limited-time Arenas mode.

Electronic Arts Cancels Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile

Team deathmatch is a less “demanding” option compared to the standard battle royale, featuring “6v6” skirmishes with 30 kills needed to win a round, and two rounds to win a match.

Despite the success, the game has received criticism from fans due to various issues. One of the main criticisms is the round-based format, which leads to players leaving matches as soon as they start losing.

This problem is further compounded by poor matchmaking that often pits novices against experienced players.

Furthermore, players have complained that the map is not designed for team deathmatch, and the spawns are too slow, leading to long-range weapon camping and making the round system terrible.

Although Apex Legends may not be able to replicate its recent record soon, it is still an impressive feat for a game that has been around for a few years.

While the new team deathmatch mode has received criticism from fans, it remains to be seen if the developers will make any changes to address the issues raised.

Despite this, Apex Legends is still a hugely popular game that has captured the hearts of many players around the world.
