Kazunori Yamauchi, the mastermind behind the popular racing franchise Gran Turismo, recently made a noteworthy revelation during a GameWatch interview. The discussion centered around the hotly anticipated Gran Turismo 8, but it also provided an opportunity for Yamauchi to shed some light on the compatibility of Gran Turismo 7 with the PlayStation VR2 headset.
When probed by the Japanese portal’s journalists about the support for the PS VR2 Sense controllers, Yamauchi responded with a decisive statement. He explained that the gameplay experience in Gran Turismo 7 is designed to be enjoyed using a traditional gaming setup, where players sit down and utilize a steering wheel, brake, and accelerator to control their virtual cars.
He went on to add that all of these features are perfectly supported by the PS5 DualSense controller, making compatibility with the PS VR2 Sense controllers unnecessary.
Moreover, as Yamauchi emphasized, many fans of the racing franchise prefer to fully immerse themselves in the virtual world of Gran Turismo 7 by using a compatible steering wheel and pedal set.
Hence, offering support for the Sense controllers would have been an unnecessary addition for this group of players.
He stated, “Many players prefer to use a steering wheel to get the true racing experience, just like driving a real car. Our focus was on delivering the best gameplay experience for both those who prefer the DualSense controller and those who like to use a steering wheel.”
It’s worth noting that the eagerly awaited update for Gran Turismo 7 to be compatible with the PS VR2 headset will be available as part of the exciting lineup of PS VR2 launch games on the PlayStation 5. This update is sure to add a whole new level of excitement to the already thrilling gameplay.
