As reported by Forbes, a Twitter user boasting 1.1 million followers shared the film in two segments, in high-definition quality, through Twitter’s Blue subscription service, which permits video uploads up to an hour in length.

The leaked film garnered 9 million views before Twitter took it down, a full seven hours after it was initially uploaded. This occurrence has raised eyebrows concerning Twitter’s workforce reductions and the possibility of misuse of the features accessible to Blue subscribers.

The fate of the “vids that go hard” account, which was responsible for the leak, remains uncertain—whether it will be suspended or permanently banned is still up in the air.

Remarkably, the unauthorized release has not hindered the movie’s ongoing box office success. The Super Mario Bros. Movie now stands as one of the top-earning films of the year, boasting twice the revenue of any other video game adaptation.

With its $1 billion worldwide earnings, the film joins the elite group of just 10 animated movies to achieve this impressive milestone.

Mario’s creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, commented on the film’s success in an interview with Japanese media, stating, “A certain degree of luck is needed to attain this level of accomplishment for a film. Although numerous foreign critics have assigned relatively low ratings to the movie, I believe that it has only fueled the film’s notoriety and buzz.”
