Metal Gear Solid fans, brace yourselves for a new adventure that transcends the digital realm. The iconic franchise is finally venturing into the world of tabletop gaming, albeit five years later than initially planned.

CMON, a leading tabletop games publisher, has announced the pre-order availability of “Metal Gear Solid: The Board Game,” initially slated for a 2019 release. After a long period of quiet and a previous cancellation in 2020, the game is now closer than ever to becoming a reality.

Designed by Emerson Matsuuchi of Nazca Games, this board game aims to capture the stealth-based gameplay that fans of the video game series have come to adore. Players can step into the shoes of one of four leading characters – Solid Snake, Meryl Silverburgh, Gray Fox, or Hal Emmerich, each armed with distinctive abilities.

Unlocking Missions and Unveiling Stories in the Board Game

The game promises ample engagement with six standalone missions and a 14-mission campaign, allowing players to unlock new inventory items gradually. The board game seeks to replicate the suspense and tactical thinking that Metal Gear Solid is renowned for in its video game format.

What’s more, those who pre-order the Complete Edition will receive some enticing extras. In addition to the game, they will get their hands on a graphic novel that unfolds the campaign in comic book style and a 13cm tall miniature figure of Metal Gear REX.

From the Video Game Revival to the Board Game Release

The board game’s announcement comes hot on the heels of Konami revealing the remake of “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.” This forthcoming video game, aptly named “Metal Gear Solid Delta,” marks the first release in the series in nearly a decade.

Although a specific release date for the video game is yet to be confirmed, the double dose of Metal Gear Solid — the video game remake and the board game release — is bound to stir excitement among the franchise’s fan base. It offers them a renewed opportunity to immerse themselves in the gripping universe the saga promises to deliver.

CMON’s website is now accepting pre-orders for the board game. The full version, which includes the graphic novel and REX miniature, is priced at $100 plus shipping. For those looking for a more budget-friendly option, a pared-down version will also be available, albeit without the novel and miniature.
