The Callisto Protocol, the chilling sci-fi horror game from developer Striking Distance Studios, is set to receive its long-awaited story DLC titled “Final Transmission” at the end of June.
Although not officially confirmed by the developers, it is widely speculated that “Final Transmission” is the anticipated “story DLC” included in the game’s season pass. This DLC promises to delve deeper into the dark and mysterious secrets of The Callisto Protocol.
Teasing the upcoming release, Striking Distance Studios took to Twitter to announce, “Prepare for Final Transmission, the heart-pounding final chapter of The Callisto Protocol. Play 48 hours early on June 27, exclusively on PlayStation, followed by a wider release on June 29 for all other platforms.”
The Callisto Protocol, despite its visually stunning sci-fi world, has faced criticism for its combat system. In a review by GamesRadar+, the reviewer, Leon, expressed appreciation for the game’s immersive setting but found the combat to be challenging and unenjoyable.
To enhance the overall experience, Leon suggested playing the game on the “easy” difficulty setting, which significantly improved the enjoyment and reduced frustration.
In addition to the upcoming story DLC, The Callisto Protocol now offers a New Game Plus mode, allowing players who have completed the game to start a new playthrough with all their weapons, upgrades, and previously acquired Callisto Credits.
This new feature also introduces an achievement for completing a New Game Plus run, addressing concerns some players had about unlocking specific trophies.
Despite initial expectations, The Callisto Protocol reportedly fell short of projected sales, with only two million copies sold out of the anticipated five million.
This outcome has led to a decrease in the target stock prices for Krafton, the game’s publisher, by several investors. The game’s mixed reception and underperformance on PC have raised doubts about its ability to reach the sales target of five million copies.
