Unexpected Disconnect Spells the End for Diablo 4’s First Hardcore Level 100 Player

A sudden disconnection led to a heartbreaking end for Souaïb 'cArn' Hanaf, the first player to hit level 100 in Diablo 4's hardcore mode.

In a recent Diablo 4 gaming event, a player known as Souaïb ‘cArn’ Hanaf made headlines as the first player to reach level 100 while participating in the unforgiving ‘hardcore’ mode of the game. This version of the game is known for its high-stakes rule – when a character dies, they are gone forever.

Tragically, not long after achieving this significant milestone, cArn’s character faced an untimely demise due to an unfortunate disconnect.

An Unfortunate Disconnect at the Worst Possible Time

cArn’s tragic end occurred during a seemingly regular gaming session. He had managed to reach the level 100 hardcore milestone, beating potential rivals thanks to group play which helped maximize his experience gains. In this session, cArn was exploring the Diablo 4 map, preparing to challenge the game’s toughest boss fight.

Using the popular Barbarian build and carving through enemy packs with the Whirlwind ability, everything seemed normal until his character started behaving strangely. The on-screen character stuttered, struggled to draw weapons, and enemies jittered in place. Abruptly, the screen froze, then cut to black, leaving cArn and his viewers in shock.

Dealing with the Tragic Loss

As he attempted to log back in, the character creation screen greeted cArn – an ominous sign as the permanent death feature of the hardcore mode meant his character was irretrievably lost. Upon creating a new character, the sad reality became apparent – his 82-hour journey and a fully equipped Barbarian was now confined to the Hall of Fallen Heroes, where lost hardcore characters are immortalized.

This loss was not just about his character’s progress. As cArn stated, “I don’t care about my level 100, I care about my gear.” The pain of losing high-value loot with perfect rolls and unique Diablo 4 items can indeed be more significant than losing the character itself.

Diablo IV

Despite possessing many scrolls of escape – a hardcore-only item for evading deadly situations – these items offer no relief if a sudden disconnection makes them unusable.

Traditionally, Blizzard does not facilitate a recovery option for characters lost due to internet or server issues, signifying that cArn’s character is likely lost forever.

With high spirits, cArn is back on the grind, this time focusing on a Rogue build. We extend our sympathies to cArn on his loss and wish him the best of luck on his new gaming journey.
