Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia Remake Moves Forward

From Turbulence to Triumph: The Evolving Journey of Prince of Persia's Remake.

Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Remake

The journey of Ubisoft’s “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake” has been fraught with challenges, but recent developments suggest a turning point.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the original game’s launch, Ubisoft announced through Twitter a significant, albeit mysterious, achievement in the game’s development.

The team at Ubisoft Montreal, now at the helm of the project, has reportedly crossed an “important internal milestone,” indicating forward momentum in what has been a complex and often problematic process.

A Rocky Road: The Game’s Development History

Since its announcement in 2020, the remake of “Prince of Persia” has encountered numerous setbacks. The initial delay came just months after its unveiling, followed by an indefinite postponement in February 2021.

In a major strategic shift, Ubisoft transferred the development responsibilities from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal in May 2022. Since then, the studio known for “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” has been focusing on the “conception” phase of the remake.

Ubisoft’s Alternative Ventures: ‘The Lost Crown’

Amidst the turbulent development of “The Sands of Time Remake,” Ubisoft has not shied away from continuing the “Prince of Persia” legacy through other means. The recent announcement of “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,” a 2D Metroidvania-style game, represents a creative departure for the series.

This new title, which has already garnered positive feedback following hands-on previews, offers a fresh take on the Prince of Persia universe, keeping fans engaged as they anticipate the return of “The Sands of Time.”
