The ambitious mod project “Fallout: London,” which reimagines the world of Fallout 4 in a post-apocalyptic England, is nearing its much-anticipated release. After over five years of development, this massive mod, which essentially offers a new game experience, is set to launch in the coming months.

“Fallout: London” began its journey in early 2019 and has since evolved into a colossal endeavor. The project brought together over 50 core developers and more than 200 contributors. Their goal was to transform the familiar setting of North America in Fallout 4 into a radiated and desolate London landscape. This new world spans across various boroughs from Camden to Croydon and iconic landmarks like Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament, all given a post-apocalyptic twist.

The scale of the mod is comparable to the original Fallout 4 Commonwealth and its Far Harbor DLC combined, complete with quintessentially British elements like pubs, tube stations, buses, and telephone boxes. The team’s dedication extended to creating hundreds of new weapons, clothing, animations, and objects, including seven unique settlements.

Navigating Challenges and Setting a Release Date

Originally planned for release in 2023, the mod faced setbacks. The developers, Team FOLON, cited challenges including team members being located in conflict-affected regions, which contributed to the delay. Their commitment to delivering a polished and thoroughly tested product led them to postpone the launch to 2024.

“We only get one chance at a first release,” stated Team FOLON on TwiXer. Their decision to delay was driven by the desire to avoid the issues that have marred other community and industry projects. The new release date is now set for April 24th, coinciding with St. George’s Day, and aligns with the premiere of Amazon’s Fallout TV show, potentially boosting interest in the mod.

Compatibility with Bethesda’s Plans

Acknowledging Bethesda’s upcoming “next-gen” update for Fallout 4, also delayed into 2024, Team FOLON clarified that “Fallout: London” would not be released for this new update due to uncertainties regarding Bethesda’s changes. This decision underscores the independent nature of the mod and the unique experience it aims to offer players.

“Fallout: London” represents a significant achievement in the world of game modding, promising a fresh and immersive experience in the beloved Fallout universe. As the release date approaches, anticipation continues to build among fans eager to explore a post-apocalyptic London like never before.
