CD Projekt Red, the acclaimed studio behind the ‘Witcher’ series, is preparing to embark on its next major venture with ‘The Witcher 4’. While fans eagerly await any news on this new installment, recent updates suggest that the game’s production is about to ramp up, though a release date remains distant on the horizon.
According to a report from Reuters, CD Projekt Red plans to initiate the production of ‘The Witcher 4’, currently referred to internally as Polaris, around this summer. Adam Badowski, the CEO of CD Projekt, shared the studio’s goal to have approximately 400 developers working on the project by mid-year. This ambitious staffing plan underscores the scale and complexity of the upcoming game, aligning with the expansive and detailed worlds for which the studio is known.
However, fans should temper their expectations regarding a release date. Given the extended timelines typical of AAA game development, coupled with CD Projekt Red’s commitment to quality and depth, it’s likely that ‘The Witcher 4’ won’t be gracing screens for quite some time.
In addition to ‘The Witcher 4’, the studio provided a brief update on the sequel to ‘Cyberpunk 2077’, currently in the conceptual phase and codenamed Orion. This project is expected to have around 80 people working on it by year’s end.
While details are scarce, there’s speculation about the inclusion of multiplayer elements. Badowski also emphasized the studio’s determination to avoid the tumultuous launch that marred ‘Cyberpunk 2077’, aiming for a smoother release for Orion.
Another intriguing aspect of CD Projekt Red’s future plans involves the use of Artificial Intelligence. Badowski clarified that while AI could be a useful tool in enhancing certain production processes, there is no intention of replacing human staff with technology. This approach reflects a balanced view of embracing new technologies while valuing the irreplaceable creative input of human developers.
