The Witcher Remake Is Official! CD Projekt Red To Develop the Game on Unreal Engine 5

Running on Unreal Engine 5, the game is said to capitalize on all the strengths of the latest technology.

CD Projekt RED has just confirmed development of a full refresh of the first Witcher. While the game is being made on Unreal Engine 5, Polish studio Fool’s Theory is responsible for the project with Witcher veterans working on the development, while CD PROJEKT RED will provide creative oversight.

CD Projekt RED has confirmed that The Witcher Remake will actually be the mysterious “Witcher Canis Majoris,” that was announced a few weeks ago.

At the time, the developers did not want to reveal the project, since they decided to use the opportunity to confirm the game on The Witcher’s 15th birthday.

With The Witcher Remake in the early stages of production, CD Projekt RED has confirmed that it is striving to make a game that presents “the highest possible level,” so the studio is requesting patience.

“The Witcher was the beginning of CD PROJEKT RED, it’s where everything started for us. It was our first game and a landmark moment for the studio. The remake is equally important, because it will be an opportunity for a new generation of gamers to experience the beginning of Geralt’s story for the first time. We know the Fool’s Theory team well, they include our colleagues who worked with us on the series. Above all, they are wildly ambitious people making great games. They know the source material and realize that players have been hoping for this remake for a long time. This is just the beginning of this project, but I believe it will be worth the wait.” – Adam Badowski, head of the CD PROJEKT RED studio stated.

CD Projekt RED is presently not stating the target platforms, among other things, but considering that the project’s title needs a lot of time, we may assume that Fool’s Theory is implementing the game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

“I am very excited about the chance to work again with those involved in the production of the second and third parts of The Witcher. Especially since we are talking about a remake of a game that is very close to our hearts. We are excited to work with CD PROJEKT RED, and our goal is to put another great game from the iconic Witcher series into the hands of players,” said Jakub Rokosz, CEO of Fool’s Theory.

The Fool’s Theory team includes developers who formerly collaborated on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Gon, to name a few.
