We Should Wait Many Years for the New Cyberpunk: These Are Projekt RED’s Plans

Next year, CD Projekt RED is going to offer the first, and final, story-driven add-on to Cyberpunk 2077, and only after that will concrete work begin on the next game in the series.

In this case, the studio cannot pursue two projects simultaneously, which will unfortunately affect the release date of the new production.

At an investor meeting, Adam Kicinski, CEO of CD Projekt, affirmed that work on the new Cyberpunk will begin only after the release of the expansion Cyberpunk 2077: Specter of Freedom.

To begin with, the studio will take care of the research and concept phase, and only then will we see pre-production.

Developers want to prepare a solid outline of the project at the start in order to begin work, so pre-production will probably not begin in 2023.

We must also keep in mind an important detail – though right now the largest part of CD Projekt RED’s staff is developing Cyberpunk 2077: Specter of Freedom, once the add-on is completed, a piece of the team will move on to develop the new The Witcher.

CD Projekt wants to form an entirely new team in Boston next year, and while some of the Warsaw-based staff will be brought on board, it will take a few years for the title to debut.

In fact, the one question remains – will CD Projekt RED make it before the end of the current generation? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
