The release of Amazon Prime’s highly anticipated Fallout TV series has sparked a renewed interest in Bethesda’s beloved post-apocalyptic RPG franchise, with players flocking back to both new and classic entries in the series.

Most notably, Fallout 76 has set a new all-time concurrent player record on Steam, reaching a peak of 39,455 players simultaneously on Sunday, April 14th. This impressive milestone comes just a week after the debut of the Amazon Prime series, which has been met with generally favorable reviews.

“The Amazon Prime show seems to have served as a stimpak for the action-RPG,” said one industry analyst, referring to the healing item from the Fallout games. “Fans are clearly eager to revisit the iconic Fallout world after being introduced to it through the new TV adaptation.”

The resurgence in popularity is not limited to Fallout 76, however. Across the Fallout franchise, player counts have skyrocketed on Steam following the show’s release. Fallout 4, the most recent mainline entry in the series, saw its player count peak at an impressive 83,491 on Sunday – more than tripling its numbers from the previous week.

Even older titles in the series, such as Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3, have experienced significant boosts, with New Vegas hitting a peak of 19,505 concurrent players and Fallout 3 reaching nearly 7,000.

“It’s clear that the Amazon Prime show has served as a powerful catalyst, reigniting player interest across the entire Fallout franchise,” said a spokesperson for Bethesda. “We’re thrilled to see fans new and old diving back into these beloved post-apocalyptic worlds.”

To further capitalize on the resurgence, Bethesda is currently offering Fallout 76 for free on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox for a limited time. Additionally, Amazon is providing Fallout 76 for free to Prime members, allowing them to claim and keep the game on either PC or Xbox.

With the Fallout TV series continuing to generate buzz and the games themselves receiving renewed attention, it’s clear that the post-apocalyptic RPG franchise is enjoying a significant renaissance. Bethesda and Amazon’s collaboration has successfully breathed new life into the Fallout universe, and fans are eagerly embracing the opportunity to revisit these iconic worlds.
