Ahead of its launch this Friday, April 26th, Shift Up’s highly anticipated action game Stellar Blade is receiving a day one patch that not only adds a fan-requested New Game+ mode but also addresses concerns over unintentionally offensive artwork present in the game’s environments. This proactive response from the Korean developer demonstrates a commitment to delivering a polished experience while being receptive to community feedback.

The inclusion of New Game+ in Stellar Blade’s version 1.002 update is a welcome addition that many reviewers had noted as a glaring omission in the build they played. Fans can now look forward to carrying over their hard-earned progression, including equipment, currency, character enhancements, drone upgrades, skills, and SP, into a fresh playthrough upon completing the game’s story. This quality-of-life feature will undoubtedly enhance the replay value and provide more motivation for players to push through to the finale.

However, the most significant change brought about by the day one patch is the removal of certain pieces of graffiti artwork that had drawn criticism for being unintentionally offensive. As highlighted by modder Lance McDonald on Twitter, one area in the game featured the word “hard” graffitied next to a neon sign reading “R Shop” – an establishment run by the character Roxanne. While likely an inadvertent juxtaposition, the combination of these two environmental assets created an unintended allusion to a racial slur.

Stellar Blade embargo is up so I can finally show you the "Hard R Shop" graffiti lmao wonder how long this'll take to get patched out. pic.twitter.com/e7xv2aoxGz

In a statement to IGN, publisher PlayStation acknowledged the issue, saying, “The placement of two graphics near each other in Stellar Blade resulted in an unintentional objectionable phrase. Shift Up had no intention of creating offensive artwork and will be replacing the graffiti for the Day 1 patch.”

This prompt action to rectify the situation is a testament to Shift Up’s responsiveness and willingness to address legitimate concerns raised by the community. By swiftly patching out the controversial artwork, the developers have demonstrated a level of sensitivity that is increasingly crucial in our current cultural climate.

Was super bummed at the item of starting over without my outfits and upgrades. NO LONGER IS THAT A CONCERN pic.twitter.com/NrzzLnkHpV

With the day one patch implementing both the New Game+ mode and the revised environmental art, Stellar Blade is poised to launch in a state that better aligns with player expectations and community standards. Shift Up’s proactive approach to iterate on their game based on feedback further reinforces the studio’s dedication to delivering a top-tier experience.

As the action-packed cosmic adventures of protagonist Eve prepare to unfold for players worldwide, Stellar Blade’s day one update stands as a positive example of a developer prioritizing player satisfaction and being receptive to constructive criticism. With new gameplay opportunities and a more thoughtful artistic direction, the stage is set for an immersive and respectful intergalactic odyssey.
