In a fitting celebration of Wolverine’s 50th anniversary, two of comics’ biggest superstars are teaming up for an explosive, bone-crunching story that promises to push the mutant hero to his bloody limits. Marvel Comics has announced Wolverine: Revenge, a five-issue limited series written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by Greg Capullo, with inks by Tim Townsend and colors by Fco Plascencia.
The high-octane tale will pit Wolverine against a formidable group of foes, including classic adversaries like Sabretooth, Omega Red, and even the merc with a mouth, Deadpool. According to Capullo, Marvel has “removed the fences” and let the creators “off their leash” to deliver “the most vicious and punishing Wolverine story possible.”
Wolverine: Revenge marks Capullo’s first Marvel interior art in decades, following his legendary runs on titles like Spawn and Batman. “I’ve finally returned home to Marvel, and I’m ready to raise some Hell,” Capullo said, promising to bring unrestrained, visceral action to the pages.
Writer Jonathan Hickman expressed his excitement to collaborate with the iconic artist, stating, “It’s such a privilege to get to work with a legend like Greg.” He added that their primary goal was “taking the readers on a high-octane, no-hold-barred Wolverine story that was a proper celebration of both the character and Greg returning to Marvel.”
In a unique twist, Wolverine: Revenge will also be available in a special “Red Band Edition,” similar to Marvel’s current Blood Hunt series. These polybagged editions will include additional pages and “elevated violence,” allowing readers to witness Wolverine’s berserker rage in all its gory glory.
Fans can expect a wild, adrenaline-fueled ride as the creators hold nothing back in this anniversary tale. With Capullo’s dynamic artwork and Hickman’s masterful storytelling, Wolverine: Revenge promises to be a brutal, unforgettable entry in the character’s storied history.
Wolverine: Revenge #1 hits comic shops and digital platforms on August 21st, with a cover by Capullo himself.
