Orlando Bloom Eager to Nock Arrows as Legolas in New “Lord of the Rings” Film

Actor expresses fondness for iconic role as new "Lord of the Rings" prequel enters development

Actor Orlando Bloom has ignited excitement among “Lord of the Rings” fans by expressing his keen interest in returning to the role of Legolas in future Middle-earth projects. During a panel at Superhero Comic Con 2024 in San Antonio, Texas, Bloom reminisced about his time filming the original trilogy and voiced his enthusiasm for potentially reprising the iconic elven character.

“I was only like 20 years old when I went out to New Zealand for ‘LORD OF THE RINGS,'” Bloom recalled, according to a post on social media platform X by Agents of Fandom. “I turned 21 a couple of months into filming and… inhabiting the headspace of an elf is really fun.”

Bloom’s comments come at a particularly opportune time, as a new “Lord of the Rings” film is currently in development. Titled “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” this prequel project is being produced by Peter Jackson, with Andy Serkis set to direct and reprise his role as Gollum. The film, which will explore events around the time of “The Fellowship of the Ring,” is reported to include Legolas’ father, King Thranduil, potentially opening the door for Bloom’s return.

The actor’s career has spanned several major franchises since his breakout role as Legolas, including the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series and appearances in films such as “Black Hawk Down,” “Troy,” and most recently, “Gran Turismo.” He also returned to Middle-earth for two of “The Hobbit” prequel films in 2013.

With the “Lord of the Rings” franchise continuing to expand, including an upcoming anime film “The War of the Rohirrim” set for release on December 13, Bloom’s potential return as Legolas could bridge the gap between the beloved original trilogy and new adventures in Middle-earth.

As fans eagerly await further announcements, Bloom’s enthusiasm for the character he first portrayed over two decades ago suggests that the magic of Middle-earth continues to captivate both audiences and actors alike.
