Andy Serkis, known for his portrayal of Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” has provided an exciting update on the highly anticipated sequel. Speaking at the ACE Superhero Comic Con and in an interview with Popverse, Serkis shared insights into the production timeline and script development for “The Batman Part II.”
“We’re probably likely to be starting filming early next year,” Serkis revealed, referring to early 2025. He added, “If you do the math, it’ll be a year and a half after that,” aligning with the film’s scheduled release date of October 2, 2026.
Serkis expressed confidence in director Matt Reeves’ vision for the sequel, stating, “Matt Reeves being Matt Reeves, the extraordinary filmmaker that he is, I can only assume that it’s going to be another brilliant script, because I thought what he did with that first film was pretty amazing.” The actor also voiced his enthusiasm about reuniting with Robert Pattinson, who will reprise his role as the Dark Knight.
While details about the plot remain under wraps, the film’s development is progressing steadily. Serkis noted that Reeves is “working really hard on the script,” suggesting that the creative process is well underway.
The sequel comes amid significant changes in DC’s creative leadership. However, James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has assured fans that Reeves will have full creative freedom to build his Batman universe, which exists separately from the main DC Universe continuity.
In the meantime, fans can look forward to “The Penguin,” a spin-off series starring Colin Farrell, set to premiere later this year. The show, which recently released its first trailer, will further expand the Gotham City established in “The Batman.”
Serkis, known for his versatility, is also set to star in and direct “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” reprising his iconic role as Gollum. With Peter Jackson involved in a producing capacity, this project adds to Serkis’ already impressive lineup of upcoming work.
As “The Batman Part II” moves closer to production, fans can rest assured that the creative team is committed to delivering another compelling chapter in this dark and gritty interpretation of the Caped Crusader’s world.
