Hollywood megastar Brad Pitt is set to bring the high-octane world of Formula 1 racing to the big screen in the upcoming film “F1,” slated for release on June 27, 2025. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on “Top Gun: Maverick,” the movie promises to revolutionize the way racing is captured on film, using cutting-edge technology that surpasses even its aviation-themed predecessor.
The Apple Original Films production, which has been shooting at actual Grand Prix events, aims to deliver an unprecedented level of authenticity and excitement. Kosinski explained to Deadline, “It’s the next generation from what we did on Top Gun. Everything is much smaller and the big innovation is that we’re now able to control the movement of the cameras on the cars.”
This technological leap allows for real-time control of camera panning and focusing, facilitated by an extensive RF network built around the racetracks. The result is expected to be a visceral, immersive experience that puts viewers right in the driver’s seat.
The film’s production has been integrated into live Formula 1 events, adding an extra layer of realism and intensity to the performances. Kosinski recounted a particularly challenging scene shot at Silverstone: “We had something like nine minutes to shoot a one, or one-and-a-half-page dialogue scene with three actors. It’s like a pitstop.”
To ensure accuracy in portraying the sport, the production team has enlisted seven-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton as a producer. Hamilton’s involvement extends beyond technical advice; he has been actively participating in script reviews and creative discussions.
The recently released trailer for “F1” showcases Brad Pitt in racing gear and hints at the exhilarating action audiences can expect. The film’s synopsis reveals that Pitt plays a former driver returning to Formula 1, teaming up with a character portrayed by Damson Idris. The cast also includes Kerry Condon and Javier Bardem, promising strong performances alongside the high-speed thrills.
While it remains to be seen whether “F1” will match the box office success of “Top Gun: Maverick,” the combination of star power, groundbreaking technology, and the glamorous world of Formula 1 racing sets the stage for a potential blockbuster. As the film races towards its 2025 release date, anticipation continues to build among movie fans and racing enthusiasts alike.
