Netflix had a surprise switch-up at the top of their movie chart here in the US. The golf drama “The Long Game” just bumped Eddie Murphy’s “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” from the number one spot. Talk about unexpected!
“The Long Game” stars Dennis Quaid, Jay Hernandez, and Cheech Marin in the story of a school superintendent facing racism at an all-white country club. It came out on Netflix last week and quickly rocketed to the top. And it’s no surprise – the movie has a perfect 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes! Clearly folks are really enjoying it.
Meanwhile, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” had a solid week-long run at number one after its successful debut. The action-comedy, also starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon, pulled in 41 million global viewers in the first week. Not too shabby!
The volatility of streaming is plain to see. Like the Italian thriller “Vanished into the Night” taking the global top spot despite mixed reviews. So big-name movies don’t always equal big viewership.
Over in TV shows, “Bridgerton” season 3 is still going strong at number 4 after eight weeks. It just hit 95.8 million views, landing it the number 8 spot on Netflix’s all-time list. Pretty impressive for a period drama!
Seeing different types of shows find success, from “The Long Game” to “Beverly Hills Cop” to “Bridgerton,” proves viewer tastes are constantly changing in the streaming age. It’s clear quality content can beat out budgets and fame. And predicting what’ll hit the top isn’t easy when unexpected gems keep popping up! As streaming keeps evolving, you never know what might surge to the number one spot.
