The cast of the popular Netflix series “Emily in Paris” is encouraging a crossover with the iconic HBO series “Sex and the City.” Many actors from Emily’s show have voiced their excitement about the possibility of Kim Cattrall appearing as her memorable character Samantha Jones.
Cattrall played the bold and outspoken public relations executive Samantha for six seasons of Sex and the City. Lily Collins, the star of Emily in Paris, told IMDb that having Samantha in an episode would make sense. “There’s a lot of overlap between the shows given they were both created by Darren Star,” Collins noted.
Lucas Bravo, who plays chef Gabriel, said the cast has discussed wanting Cattrall for a substantial guest role. “We’ve been actively talking about manifesting Kim Cattrall’s presence on Emily in Paris,” Bravo explained. Fellow actors Ashley Park, Lucien Laviscount, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Samuel Arnold, and Bruno Gouery also think a crossover could work well.
As a PR pro based in London, Samantha interacting with American marketing executive Emily in Paris provides story possibilities. The two cities’ proximity also adds plausibility. However, Cattrall’s relationship with Sex and the City’s franchise has been complicated lately. While she made a brief appearance in the revival And Just Like That…, Cattrall has said she won’t return for season three. The actress has spoken openly about behind-the-scenes tensions with her co-star Sarah Jessica Parker.
For now, as cast members brainstorm, only Kim Cattrall can decide if Samantha will cross the English Channel. The enthusiasm shows how beloved her character remains. But whether fans will see this crossover dream become reality remains uncertain.
