Broadway star Patti LuPone has revealed that the Disney+ series “Agatha All Along” will not return for a second season, based on creator Jac Schaeffer’s preference for single-season storytelling.
During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM podcast, LuPone shared details of her conversation with Schaeffer during the show’s production. “Jac Schaeffer, the creator, came into my trailer and said, ‘Patti, I’m just here to tell you that Lilia’s going to die,'” LuPone recounted. When she expressed hope for a second season, Schaeffer was clear about her creative approach.
“She said, ‘I don’t do second seasons,'” LuPone explained. “‘There’s too much to write,’ so she does one-off stories.” This approach is consistent with Schaeffer’s previous work on “WandaVision,” where she also declined a second season.
The Marvel series follows Kathryn Hahn’s witch character leading a group of sorceresses, including LuPone, Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Debra Jo Rupp, and Joe Locke. While the series is ending, fans can still hope to see these characters in future Marvel projects.
The first season’s finale sets up potential storylines for Joe Locke’s character, Wiccan. His search for his lost brother and developing powers could be explored in upcoming Marvel properties, such as the anticipated Vision series or a possible Young Avengers project.
Despite the series’ conclusion, the cast remains positive. Kathryn Hahn told Deadline in December that she would be “thrilled to come back in any capacity,” describing the filming experience as “life altering.”
LuPone remains optimistic about future collaborations with Schaeffer, whom she praised as “magic,” even as the current project comes to a close.
Although “Agatha All Along” will not return for a second season, the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand with new and exciting storytelling opportunities.
