As Suits LA approaches its debut, questions continue about whether former cast members could appear. Gabriel Macht is already set to return as Harvey Specter, leading to speculation about Meghan Markle’s potential involvement. Aaron Korsh, the creator of Suits, addressed the topic, stating that while Markle would be welcome, reintroducing her character would not be straightforward.
Speaking to People at the premiere of the spinoff, Korsh explained that bringing Rachel Zane back would create complications. “It blows up the world too much,” he said.
Markle portrayed Rachel Zane from the show’s debut in 2011 until 2018, when her character moved to Seattle with Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams). The departure aligned with Markle’s decision to leave acting after marrying Prince Harry.
Korsh acknowledged that while Markle could return under any circumstances, her reappearance would disrupt the show’s continuity. “Of course. Of course. Always. But I think realistically, it would be too much of an explosion of the fourth wall to do that,” he said.
Since stepping away from acting, Markle has remained active in media. She narrated Disneynature’s Elephant in 2020 and has a new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, premiering on March 4.
Though she has not indicated plans to return to scripted television, some have suggested she could be involved behind the scenes, possibly as a producer or director.
Suits LA takes place at an entertainment law firm in Los Angeles, bringing in new characters while maintaining ties to the original series. With Macht’s return already confirmed, the possibility of other cast members appearing remains open.
The show premieres on NBC on Sunday, February 23, at 9 p.m. EST.
