Jenna Ortega is leaving her Marvel experience in the past. The actress recently reflected on her brief, uncredited role in Iron Man 3, making it clear that she has no plans to return to the franchise.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ortega was reminded that she had technically already been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I did it once,” she said. “It was one of the first jobs I ever did. They took all my lines out. I’m in Iron Man 3 for a quick second. I take up the frame, I have one leg, and I’m the vice president’s daughter.”
Paul Rudd, who was being interviewed alongside her, expressed hope that Ortega could return to the franchise in a more significant role. “Marvel is very good at laying those breadcrumbs, and so it might very well be that you come back. They should be so lucky to have Jenna Ortega in their franchise.”
Ortega, however, dismissed the idea. “They even took my name away. I count that, then I move on,” she said, laughing. The experience, while early in her career, does not seem to be something she is looking to revisit.
Iron Man 3, released in 2013, starred Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and followed the billionaire inventor as he dealt with the fallout of an attack by the Mandarin. The film grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide, making it one of the highest-earning entries in the franchise.
Since her brief Marvel appearance at age 11, Ortega has built a career with roles in Wednesday, Scream, X, and The Fallout. She is set to return for Wednesday Season 2 and has several upcoming projects, including Hurry Up Tomorrow, The Gallerist, and a remake of Single White Female.
