Jessica Capshaw has been added to the cast of 9-1-1: Nashville, the upcoming ABC series from Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Raisani. She joins Chris O’Donnell as a series regular, with production currently underway.
Capshaw will play the wife of Captain Don Sharpe (O’Donnell) and mother to the show’s main character, who has not yet been cast. The series follows Sharpe, described as a fire captain and rodeo rider managing the busiest firehouse in Nashville, along with his son. According to early descriptions, the character maintains a loyal family life but has aspects of his past that remain hidden.
ABC and 20th Television have not publicly commented on Capshaw’s casting or released additional character details. The series received a straight-to-series order from ABC in early 2024 and is part of the growing 9-1-1 franchise. It is the third installment, following the flagship 9-1-1 and the now-concluded 9-1-1: Lone Star.
Capshaw is known for her longtime role as Dr. Arizona Robbins on Grey’s Anatomy, where she appeared across ten seasons. She returned briefly to the show during its 20th season. Additional credits include Hulu’s Tell Me Lies and the Netflix holiday film Holidate. She is represented by CAA and Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown and Passman.
The series is being filmed on location in Nashville. Casting and location work have been active in recent months as ABC moves forward with the next phase of the 9-1-1 television universe.
Murphy, Minear, and Raisani are writing and executive producing the series. O’Donnell, Angela Bassett, and Brad Falchuk are also on board as executive producers. ABC Studios is producing in partnership with 20th Television.
