Leslie Odom Jr. will return to Broadway this fall to reprise his Tony Award-winning role as Aaron Burr in Hamilton. His limited engagement will run from September 9 through November 23 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where the musical first opened in 2015.
Odom’s return was announced during his appearance on NBC’s Today Show, coinciding with the release of a new block of tickets now on sale through late November. His participation comes nine years after he exited the production in July 2016 and arrives just ahead of Hamilton’s tenth anniversary on Broadway, which takes place in August 2025.
“Returning to Hamilton is a deeply meaningful homecoming,” Odom said in a statement. “I’m so grateful for the chance to step back into the room—especially during this anniversary moment—and to revisit this brilliant piece that forever changed my life and the lives of so many.”
Odom played Burr in both the Off-Broadway and Broadway runs of the production, earning a Tony for Best Leading Actor in a Musical and a Grammy as a principal soloist on the original cast recording. He was part of the ensemble that introduced Lin-Manuel Miranda’s historical musical to audiences in 2015, when it quickly expanded beyond the theater world into wider popular culture.
Jeffrey Seller, lead producer of Hamilton, recalled Odom’s impact during the show’s early development. “When I saw Leslie perform ‘The Room Where It Happens’ at the first act two workshop of Hamilton, I knew I was witnessing a historic moment,” Seller said. “How lucky we are that Leslie is returning to Hamilton and bringing his indelible Burr back to Broadway.”
In the years since he left Hamilton, Odom has continued to work across stage, screen, and music. He returned to Broadway in 2023 as both producer and star of Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch, Ossie Davis’s 1961 play. The production received six Tony nominations, including one for Odom in the lead role, and was featured on PBS as part of Great Performances.
Odom’s film and television credits include One Night in Miami, for which he received two Academy Award nominations—one for his portrayal of singer Sam Cooke and another for original song. He has appeared in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, The Many Saints of Newark, Harriet, and has voiced characters in animated series such as Central Park and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. He also guest-starred on ABC’s Abbott Elementary.
His music career includes five studio albums, most recently When a Crooner Dies, released in 2023.
Hamilton, with book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, is directed by Thomas Kail with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. The production is based on the biography of Alexander Hamilton by historian Ron Chernow.
Since its debut, Hamilton has received numerous honors, including Tony, Grammy, and Olivier Awards, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a citation from the Kennedy Center Honors. The musical is produced by Jeffrey Seller, Sander Jacobs, Jill Furman, and The Public Theater.
Odom’s engagement marks a return to a role that helped define his career. The limited run is expected to draw strong interest, particularly as Hamilton approaches its tenth year on Broadway and continues performances in multiple cities and touring productions.
