Warner Bros. maintained its commanding presence at the box office this weekend, with “Sinners” and “A Minecraft Movie” leading both domestic and international charts. “Sinners,” directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, added $45 million in its second weekend in North America, reflecting a 6% dip from its $48 million debut. The vampire thriller has now amassed $122.5 million domestically and $161.6 million worldwide against a $90 million production budget.

The film’s endurance has been unusual for the horror genre, which traditionally sees sharp declines after opening weekends. Boosted by premium formats, “Sinners” has performed strongly on IMAX screens, generating $12.3 million globally over the weekend and bringing its IMAX total to $20.6 million. Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX, credited the film’s success to its cultural momentum, likening it to cinematic events such as “Oppenheimer” and “Dune: Part Two.”

“A Minecraft Movie” continued its box office climb, earning $22.7 million domestically over its fourth weekend and pushing its global total to $816 million. With $436.6 million from international markets, including $67.1 million from the United Kingdom and $33.7 million from Germany, the video game adaptation starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa stands as the highest-grossing Hollywood film of the year so far.

Disney’s re-release of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” performed strongly, drawing $25.2 million from 2,775 North American locations and an additional $17 million from 34 international territories. Germany, the United Kingdom, and Mexico led international ticket sales with $4.6 million, $2.3 million, and $1.7 million respectively.

Ben Affleck’s “The Accountant 2” followed closely in third place with $24.5 million domestically. The sequel to the 2016 action drama launched in 71 international markets, earning $13.7 million and reaching a worldwide total of $38.2 million. The $80 million production has been well received by audiences, earning an “A-” CinemaScore. Directed by Gavin O’Connor, the film revisits Affleck’s character, a mathematical savant entangled in a deadly conspiracy alongside his brother, portrayed by Jon Bernthal.

Sony’s horror film “Until Dawn” opened in fifth place with $8 million domestically and $10.1 million internationally, reaching $18.1 million worldwide. Produced for $15 million, the survival thriller has been met with mixed reactions, holding a 51% Rotten Tomatoes score and a “C+” CinemaScore grade.

A24’s “The Legend of Ochi,” directed by Isaiah Saxon, debuted in ninth place with $1.4 million from 1,153 North American locations. The fantasy drama follows a shy farm girl who forms an unexpected bond with a wounded ochi, a mystical creature feared by her community.

Revenue across theaters has increased compared to last year, with reports showing an 11% rise over 2024, although numbers remain about 30% behind pre-pandemic figures from 2019. Several studios anticipate momentum to continue with upcoming releases.
