Ben Radcliffe, fresh from his breakout as Capt. John D. Brady in Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air, has boarded Anna Biller’s The Face of Horror, a 14th-century ghost story that begins shooting in Prague later this month. He joins an ensemble led by Jonah Hauer-King, Kristine Froseth, Ellie Bamber, Leo Suter and Bella Heathcote, all confirmed when the Prague Reporter first revealed the medieval project’s Czech schedule.
Biller, celebrated for cult favourite The Love Witch, wrote the screenplay and will produce with Good Chaos founder Mike Goodridge and fellow U.K. indie veteran James Bowsher, while Sirena Film handles Czech production services and Embankment Films partners with WME on sales.
The plot follows knight Edward Carnifex (Hauer-King), whose neglect of his bride Eleanor (Froseth) sparks a spectral vendetta after her death; Bamber portrays Eleanor’s sister, with Suter as Edward’s squire and Radcliffe taking the supporting role of Roger.
Prague’s gothic architecture and 25 percent rebate continue to lure period genre shoots, a trend that recently drew Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu and AMC’s Interview with the Vampire to the city, giving Biller ample historic backdrops without leaving Europe. In a statement carried by JoBlo, the director praised “breathtaking locations” and a “stellar cast and crew” as key reasons to anchor production in the Czech Republic.
Radcliffe’s addition raises the project’s profile: the Leeds-born actor has stacked period roles in Anatomy of a Scandal and will next appear in Brit-com Fackham Hall, consolidating a résumé that mixes prestige television with indie features. Industry watchers note that Embankment hopes to screen footage for buyers at AFM in November, though a release date has yet to be announced. With cameras poised to roll amid Prague’s summer tourist crush, The Face of Horror positions itself as a visually lush, feminist-leaning twist on classic vengeance lore, now bolstered by Radcliffe’s rising star power.
