So, finally, it was accomplished: Almost 18 years after the release of Halo 2, the game was conquered on the hardest difficulty ever. All it took was playing the entire game from start to finish with every difficulty modifier except camouflage turned on, and without a single death.
To date, there is no evidence that anyone has managed to do this in 18 years. But we have it now. The streamer JerValiN on his eleventh streamed attempt has finally succeeded.
He completed Halo 2 under the conditions described above in 6 hours, and 29 minutes and 44 seconds, using not only his skill, but various glitches and exploits, which the rules don’t prohibit.
You might ask who set these rules in the first place. It was a different streamer, Charlie White, aka Cr1tikal and penguinz0, who brought the challenge to our attention some time ago and promised to pay out $5,000, or $120,000, to the loser.
JerValiN can thus look forward to a nice enrichment of his bank account. But he won’t get “only” $5000. In fact, after some time Cr1tikal quadrupled his offer, as no one was up to the challenge for the original reward. The resulting reward is $20,000.
In the result, it’s not so surprising that JerValiN is the one who beat the challenge. It was he who was the first to record across all Halo games, and specifically also Halo 2, finishing the game on the so-called “deathless LASO” difficulty, that is, with all the difficulty modifiers turned on without a single death.
However, that was made a tad easier by having camo turned on, the only difference from the newly conquered challenge.
