Fawzi Mesmar – the deputy head of publishing at Ubisoft – has admitted in an interview that the company plans to abandon the creation of games to please all gamers. The French giant instead wishes to develop titles for fans of specific genres.
Interview with the executive was conducted by the IGN website. We have learned that Ubisoft now intends to create games more focused around a single genre.
This change of direction is supposed to be demonstrated by Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is going to return to the stealthy roots of the series, dropping the RPG elements that were introduced in the Origins installment.
“Fans of the series are fans of many game genres, and we wanted to create titles that cater to specific audiences, rather than all at once. So for gamers who like older installments, we are preparing Mirage. We are also working on a multiplayer game, mobile titles and a big RPG within the Assassin’s Creed series. There are many aspects to focus on. Instead of making a game for everyone, we’re making a game for you.” – Mesmar said.
The company executive also unveiled that a key element for Ubisoft’s upcoming games is to be a surprising innovation.
Examples given here include an unusual graphical style, a new approach to familiar genres or completely new gameplay mechanics.
