Cities: Skylines 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular city-building game, is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.

With the launch just around the corner, Colossal Order, the game’s developers, recently held a Q&A session on Twitter to provide some much-needed insight into what players can expect from the new game.

One of the most pressing questions raised during the session was whether Cities: Skylines 2 would feature a multiplayer mode. Unfortunately, the answer was not what many fans had hoped for.

According to the developers, they do not plan to implement a multiplayer mode in the game—at least not for the initial release.

The team explained that their focus is on developing all elements of the brand and that implementing multiplayer support would take a significant amount of time and resources away from the core gameplay experience they are trying to create.

While the lack of multiplayer mode may disappoint some players, the game’s modding scene is expected to continue to thrive. However, it’s worth noting that projects available in the first game will not be compatible with the sequel.

As the developers explained, these mods would likely need to be reworked or adapted to function properly in Cities: Skylines 2. Nevertheless, the team promised to release more details about mod support in the near future.

In terms of gameplay, Cities: Skylines 2 promises to offer players a much larger playing field than its predecessor. Players will now have access to 150 tiles for construction, providing ample space to create and develop their metropolis.

While the exact release date for the game remains unknown, players can look forward to a more ambitious and expansive game than its predecessor.

In conclusion, while Cities: Skylines 2 may not have a multiplayer mode at launch, the game’s focus on a robust single-player experience and the promise of mod support should still make for an engaging and enjoyable gameplay experience.

With the release date approaching, fans of the series can look forward to more information about the game’s features and mechanics as the developers continue to provide updates.
